Norwegian Adventures
The word elvheim in Norwegian means “river home.” In the summer of 2025, GCN director Dr. Darrell Dooyema, his wife Annette, their three kids, and team of young leaders have been investing in more than forty international young professionals at Elvheim, their ministry house at the base of a beautiful fjord in Norway.
This year’s program included working together, study and philosophical discussions, rigorous hiking in the local mountains, and personal mentoring. Participants come from the UK, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Ghana, and the US.
The main topic was “ Soul Purpose.” Dr. Dooyema and others will lead discussions on the scriptural worldview of the soul. How do we know we have a soul? What is the purpose of our soul? How do we have a healthy soul? What about a weary soul? How can we develop what the Bible calls a “prosperous soul?” (Psalm 25:12-13).
As part of GCN’s ongoing work to invest in young professionals, Dr. Dooyema brings a wealth of scholarly knowledge, scriptural depth, and personal compassion to people who have deep intellectual questions about faith in God and what the Christian worldview means for all of life, including work. Please pray for him, Annette, and the rest of the team as this year’s program at Elvheim continues in the coming weeks.
Update on Other GCN Work
In May, Glenn and Michelle hosted a quarterly “Speaker of the House” event at their home with about thirty people. Dr. Dooyema presented an interactive lecture about the worldview of J.R.R. Tolkien and how that shaped his work, literature, and friendships.
